Wearing - Toddler Hold

Yes, you CAN use a ring sling as a back carrier! Toddler back position is recommended for babies 15 months and up who are walking steadily. See video.

  • Hold the sling with the rings and tail in front.
  • Slip the sling over one arm and your head, keeping the rings in front with the tail hanging down.
  • The rings should be in corsage position in the hollow under your shoulder. See video.
  • Adjust sling so baby’s bottom will be in the sling zone (see graphic in general wearing tips). See video.
  • Leave the top rail of sling - the edge away from your body - loose until baby is in sling.
  • For more information on getting started, watch this video.
  • Also see our Troubleshooting Guide.
  • Start with rings high on your shoulder, as they will end up in the middle of your chest when toddler is on your back.
  • Start with a hip carry. Hold toddler on shoulder, opposite from the rings in burp position.
  • Reaching through the bottom of the sling with your free hand, pull toddler's feet through sling.
Toddler
  • Slide toddler onto your hip with one hand as you hold the sling in place with the other hand. Your hands will pull in opposite directions.
  • Bend toddler's legs like a frog on either side of your hip, with bottom lower than knees.
  • Toddler should be on the back of your hip, as you might hold her when bending over to pick up a toy off the floor.
  • With a quick “lift and shift”, scoot sling around so toddler is riding piggy back. Rings should end up in the middle of your chest, and fabric should be spread across your breasts. CHECK to be sure fabric is spread from toddler’s shoulders to knees. See video.
  • Once baby is in position, tighten slack in the top rail (the edge away from your body) by firmly pulling up and over. See video.
  • Pull shoulder folds out to cup your shoulder. See video.
  • To take toddler out, scoot toddler back to hip. Take toddler out the top as illustrated in hip position, or squat down and carefully let toddler out the bottom, onto his feet. Use caution to ensure toddler does not become entangled in the sling.
  • Only use this position with a cooperative toddler.
