Wearing - Cradle Hold
Cradle hold is typically used from birth to 3 months.
- Put sling on with the rings in corsage position. See
this video and this video.
- Adjust the main body of the sling to the right height - just below your navel for cradle position. See video.
- Spread the fabric around the rings and loosen the outside edge. When the fabric is spread around the rings, it should look like this. See video.
- Create a wall of fabric against your body (shown at right). This is the pocket that baby will sit in.
- For more information on getting started, watch this video.
- Hold baby in burp position on shoulder opposite rings.
- As you slide the baby into the sling, turn the baby so her side is against you and she's facing away from the rings.
- You may need to cross baby's legs so she'll fit. Once in position, baby will lean back upright, cross-legged, with her side against your front.
- Once baby is in position, tighten slack in the top rail (the edge away from your body) by pulling
up and over across the body. See this video and this video.
- CHECK to be sure that baby is upright, not lying down. Babies lying horizontally are not safe, and most will fuss in this position. See troubleshooting guide.
- CHECK to be sure baby's chin is not touching her chest. You should be able to fit two fingers between baby's chin and chest.
- ALWAYS avoid covering baby's airway. Baby's nose and mouth should have adequate airflow at all times.
- For more information about tightening the fabric with the baby in the sling, watch this
video and other video.
- To take baby out, loosen the top rail. Loosening the entire sling is not necessary. See video.
- It may help to lift the baby's weight slightly with one hand while loosening the sling with the other hand.
- Reach inside the sling and lift baby under the arms.
- Lift baby straight up onto your shoulder in burp position. If you lift UP, not out, you will not need to loosen the sling much to get the baby out. See video about lifting up, not out.
- Pull the fabric off the baby with one hand as you hold baby with the other hand.
